Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant 

We are seeking a caring, dedicated, and proactive SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and inclusive specialist school in Preston. This rewarding role involves supporting pupils with a range of special educational needs, helping them to access learning, develop confidence, and achieve their full potential in a supportive and nurturing environment.

Position: SEN Teaching Assistant
Location: Preston
Contract: Temporary to Permanent
Start Date: ASAP or January Start

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and support staff to provide tailored assistance to children and young people with additional learning needs, such as autism (ASC), ADHD, speech and language difficulties, or moderate learning difficulties. You will help to create a calm and engaging classroom atmosphere where every pupil feels valued and supported in their learning journey.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils with a range of special educational needs.

  • Assist teachers in delivering differentiated lessons and learning activities.

  • Support pupils’ social, emotional, and academic development through positive and consistent strategies.

  • Encourage independence, confidence, and communication skills.

  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff and outside professionals to meet individual learning targets.

  • Promote an inclusive, respectful, and nurturing school environment.

 

Requirements:

  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEN (school, childcare, or youth work experience desirable).

  • A compassionate and patient approach, with excellent communication skills.

  • Ability to adapt to different needs and maintain a calm, positive attitude.

  • Commitment to helping every pupil achieve their potential

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
