SEMH Teaching Assistant in Lelyand SEMH Provision
Full-Time | Long-Term | Temporary-to-Permanent Opportunity

We are recruiting a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school setting that supports children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. This is a full-time position offering long-term stability, with the potential to secure a permanent contract following a successful introductory period.

The Role:
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting pupils who require a nurturing, structured, and consistent approach. Working alongside experienced teaching and pastoral staff, you will help create a positive environment that supports emotional regulation, develops confidence, and encourages engagement in learning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEMH needs

  • Assist in implementing personalised learning and behaviour plans

  • Build positive, trusting relationships to help pupils feel safe and supported

  • Promote emotional wellbeing, resilience, and social development

  • Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, and external professionals

  • Help manage challenging behaviours using school-approved strategies and de-escalation techniques

Ideal Candidate:

  • Experience supporting young people with SEMH, challenging behaviours, or additional needs

  • Confident, calm, and able to build rapport quickly

  • Compassionate, resilient, and proactive

  • Able to adapt to the individual needs of pupils

  • A background in education, care, youth work, sports coaching, or similar is beneficial

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
