Job description

Specialist School Supply Opportunities | September 2026

Teaching Personnel is seeking experienced Senior Teaching Assistants to support a number of specialist schools in the Templecombe area on a supply basis from September 2026, with opportunities to start sooner if available.

This position is suited to individuals who have substantial experience supporting children and young people with additional needs and who are looking for flexible employment within specialist education settings.

The schools in this area support pupils with a broad range of needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition, SEMH needs, communication difficulties, trauma-related needs, learning disabilities and complex presentations.

There are several specialist provisions available, giving successful applicants the opportunity to work within different environments and broaden their experience.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting pupils with their academic, social and emotional development.
  • Providing targeted interventions and small-group support.
  • Acting as a positive role model and promoting independence.
  • Supporting pupils who may experience difficulties with emotional regulation.
  • Assisting teachers with classroom organisation and learning activities.
  • Helping to maintain a safe, structured and nurturing environment.
  • Contributing to behaviour support strategies and individual plans where required.

 

What We Need From You

Because these are supply positions, schools require staff who can quickly integrate into existing teams and provide effective support from the outset.

Applicants should therefore have:

  • Previous experience as a Senior Teaching Assistant, Teaching Assistant or equivalent.
  • Experience supporting children with additional needs in educational settings.
  • Confidence working with pupils with complex needs.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.
  • A calm and professional approach.
