Teaching Assistant (SEN)

Bennerley Fields School, Ilkeston (DE7)

Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
Contract: Full-time / Term Time Only
Start Date: As soon as possible

Bennerley Fields School is a specialist setting committed to providing high-quality education and support for children and young people with Special Educational Needs. We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Teaching Assistant to join our team and help create positive learning experiences for our pupils every day.

Working alongside teachers and specialist staff, you will support students with a range of additional needs, helping them to engage in learning, develop independence, and achieve their individual goals within a supportive and structured environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to students across the school.
  • Assist teachers in planning and delivering engaging and differentiated lessons.
  • Support pupils to achieve their learning objectives and EHCP targets.
  • Encourage positive behaviour and support emotional wellbeing.
  • Build positive relationships with pupils, families, and colleagues.
  • Assist students with a range of communication, sensory, and learning needs.
  • Contribute to maintaining a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff, therapists, and external professionals.
  • Uphold safeguarding procedures and promote the welfare of all children and young people.

The Successful Candidate Will Have

  • Experience supporting children or young people with Special Educational Needs.
  • A caring, patient, and resilient nature.
  • Strong communication and team-working skills.
  • The ability to support students with varying levels of need and challenging behaviours.
  • A commitment to helping every child achieve their full potential.
  • An Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
