Holbrook School for Autism is a specialist provision dedicated to supporting children and young people with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC). We are looking to recruit a committed, resilient, and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join our team and play a key role in helping pupils develop academically, socially, and emotionally.
Our pupils have a range of needs associated with autism, including communication and interaction difficulties, sensory processing needs, social and emotional challenges, and behaviours that may arise from anxiety or difficulties regulating emotions. Every pupil is supported through a highly personalised and nurturing approach to learning.
As a Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and other professionals to provide tailored support that enables pupils to access learning, build confidence, develop independence, and achieve their individual goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Support pupils on a one-to-one basis and in small groups throughout the school day.
- Assist teachers in delivering engaging, structured, and personalised learning activities.
- Support pupils to achieve their individual learning objectives and EHCP outcomes.
- Promote positive behaviour through consistent routines, clear boundaries, and relationship-based approaches.
- Help pupils develop their communication, social, emotional, and independence skills.
- Use visual aids, communication strategies, and autism-friendly approaches to support learning and engagement.
- Support pupils who may experience anxiety, sensory sensitivities, or challenges with emotional regulation.
- Build positive relationships with pupils, families, colleagues, and external professionals.
- Contribute to creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
- Follow safeguarding procedures and promote the welfare of all children and young people.
The Successful Candidate Will Have
- Experience working with children or young people with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), SEND, or additional needs.
- A patient, calm, and resilient approach to supporting pupils with varying levels of need.
- An understanding of autism and the barriers pupils may face within education.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- The ability to remain positive and adaptable when supporting pupils who may display behaviours linked to communication difficulties, anxiety, or sensory needs.
- A commitment to helping every pupil reach their full potential.
- Experience in education, care, youth work, or support work is desirable.
- An Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
