SEN Teaching Assistants - Wigan - Required in January 2019

Teaching Personnel are currently working in partnership with a well respected Secondary school based in the Orrell area of Wigan to support with the recruitment of two SEN Teaching Assistants who will be required to work alongside identified pupils on a 1:1 basis.

These pupils will have a range of identified needs and may be on the ASC spectrum or have other SEN requirements that will require them to have a dedicated member of staff who is able to provide additional support throughout the school day.

  • SEN Teaching Assistants required in January 2019 for Secondary school in Wigan
  • Full time positions - employment for the remainder of the academic year
  • Experience working with ASC and challenging behaviour is essential for this position
  • Must hold or be willing to apply for a Child Workforce Enhanced DBS Certificate

The SENCO wishes to appoint two Teaching Assistants who have experience working alongside students that have identified needs, students with ASC and children that show signs of challenging behaviour. The school have highlighted that the incoming SEN Teaching Assistants must be able to work alongside students, promoting positive learning and behaviour whenever possible and are able to help them make consistent improvements in class.

In order to be successful in the incoming SEN Teaching Assistants must be enthusiastic, energetic and proactive, but also have a calming nature working alongside students with SEN needs and be able to identify and defuse stressful situations before they escalate.

School Information;

  • This is a large 11-16 mixed comprehensive Secondary school with approximately 1000 students on roll
  • The school is situated in the small town of Orrell near Wigan and draws its pupils from a wide area
  • This is a 'Good' graded secondary school where the proportion of students who have special educational needs and are supported at school action, school action plus or with a statement of special educational needs is well above average.
  • The school is based on the outskirts of Wigan and is just minutes away from the A580, There are also an abundance of transport links in and out of Wigan and the school can be easily accessed from surrounding areas.
