SEN Teaching Assistant required for students with profound and multiple learning disability.
Teaching Personnel work closely with an excellent charity which provides an alternative education service and residence to children and adults with profound learning disabilities.
The School
The provision provides a mixed day and residential school and college with a specialised curriculum based on sensory and cognitive development, occupational therapy and living skills. Teaching Assistants support in all aspects of this curriculum.
Students have a multiple diagnoses alongside communication difficulty, medical needs and physical disability. The charity provide intensive support so that students can flourish and reach multiple milestone achievements which can change their life.
The Role
As Teaching Assistant, your role will include;
- Class support in living skills and sensory/cognitive development
- Moving and Handling/ Mobility support
- Communication Support (Sign Language, Makaton, PECS, gesture)
- Personal Care
- Support in occupational therapy
You may have additional responsibilities which will be highlighted by the schools.
To be successful in your application for Teaching Assistant you must have the following;
- Experience in Support Work or similar
- Experience with special needs (Autism/Multi sensory Impairment/ Physical disability etc)
- Moving and Handling trained/experienced
- Comfortable with personal care
- Experience with non verbal communication alternatives (BSL, Makaton, PECS, gesture)
- A Child and Adult workforce DBS, register to the update service (application can be provided)
