SEN teaching assistant job in Bexley near Erith

SEN Teaching Assistant job available in South East London near Erith supporting children with autism.

  • Work in a large SEN school catering for both primary and secondary aged students with autism and moderate learning difficulties
  • £55-£65 per day, dependent on experience

This role will suit someone available for full time work, who can start as soon as possible. You will provide 1:1 support for children in a key stage 2 class, comprised of 8 students who have non-verbal autism and are working significantly below expected level. You must have experience of working with special needs, particularly those who are unable to communicate verbally and require assistance with toileting and changing.

You will follow direction from the class teacher and working collaboratively with 3 other teaching assistants. You will be a crucial component in the children's sensory, social, speech, language and communication development. It would be beneficial if you have prior experience of using PECs or Makaton as this will be something you use on a daily basis.

The ideal candidate:

  • Will be able to provide personal care throughout the day, including toileting and changing students
  • Will have an excellent attendance record, and a friendly and engaging manner
  • Will be able to commit to working at this school full time, long term and potentially become a permanent member of staff in the future
  • Will be committed to their own professional development, and will take every opportunity to attend training courses either at the school or through Teaching Personnel
  • Will already be able to use PECs or Makaton, or will be willing to learn
