We are working with a specialist school in Ponteland that supports pupils with significant social, emotional, and behavioural needs, and they are looking to appoint an experienced Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant to join their dedicated team.

This is a highly supportive specialist provision that works with pupils who display challenging behaviours linked to social, emotional, and mental health needs. The school is committed to providing structure, consistency, and therapeutic approaches that help each young person overcome barriers and achieve holistic progress academically, socially, and emotionally.
The Role
As a Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in:
- Supporting young people with complex behavioural needs, using de-escalation and relationship‑based approaches.
- Helping pupils regulate emotions, manage triggers, and re-engage with learning.
- Delivering personalised interventions to guide behaviour and support progress.
- Acting as a positive, stable role model by promoting high expectations, safety, and emotional resilience.
- Working 1:1 or in small groups to encourage positive behaviour, communication, and confidence.
- Collaborating with teachers and pastoral staff to develop behaviour plans and track pupil progress.

- Experience working with challenging behaviour, SEMH, PRU, or alternative provision settings.
- Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills.
- A calm, confident, consistent approach.
- Someone who thrives in a fast-paced, hands-on, highly rewarding environment.
- A passion for helping young people who need structure, patience, and support to achieve progress.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
