SEN Teaching Assistant

Do you have experience supporting young people with SEN requirements? Are you looking to step into a career in secondary education?

Our partner school in Stockport are looking to bring on a Teaching Assistant with experience supporting young people with SEN requirements. The role will be full time and permanent commencing after the May half term and transitioning into the new academic year.

Candidate requirements for this position:

  • Experience supporting young people with SEN requirements
  • Experience working with other vulnerable young people (SEMH, youth work, residential care)
  • Experience working with young people in a mentoring, tutoring, support work or sports coaching capacity would be beneficial
  •  Child workforce DBS certificate on the update service/ eligibility to apply
  • Able to provide 6 year work history and provide suitable references with no safeguarding/ disciplinary concerns

The successful candidate will work to support SEN students in classroom settings during lessons and alongside regular classroom teachers, helping to promote inclusion by explaining tasks and instructions to vulnerable students whilst limiting the amount of external teaching required.

SEN Teaching Assistants will also organise and carry out small group and 1-1 academic intervention and pastoral support sessions for SEN students, working alongside SENCo’s to raise student attainment and self esteem, whilst also promoting positive decisions around behaviour, attainment and social interactions.

The school itself is located in the Stockport area of Greater Manchester and is an Ofsted ‘Good’ provider. They pride themselves on making learning and their innovative curriculum accessible to all students and place a great emphasis on the sourcing of SEN support staff. The schools locations makes this opportunity ideal for candidates local to Stockport town, Bredbury, Romiley, Heaton Chapel, Cheadle Hulme and the surrounding areas.

  • Full time SEN teaching assistant position – 5 days a week, 8:30 – 3:00
  • Supporting SEN students as well as other vulnerable students in the classroom

  • Up to GBP350 a week in wages, paid weekly

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
