SEN Teaching Assistant
Location: Newport, South Wales
Pay Rate: £92.63 per day (paid weekly)
Hours: 8:30am – 3:30pm
Teaching Assistant:
If you are someone with a strong SEN background and enjoy working alongside young people, this might be the opportunity for you. Anyone who is passionate about the personal and academic development of children with ALN/SEN would thrive in this environment.
We are committed to working with vibrant SEN schools that have a variety of different classroom environments. Your demographic of pupils will range between 2-19 years old, some classes will be smaller, bigger, indoors, outdoors – no two days will look the same! You are expected to fulfil a universal ethos to positively promote equality and opportunity in preparation for adult life. Your role within that is to enable each pupil to experience learning in a calm, safe, happy and creative environment.
If you enjoy thinking outside the box, learning new skills, have an open mind, building strong relationships and being part of a forward-thinking team, you will feel at home.
A day in the life as a Teaching Assistant:
- Providing 1-1 and small-group support, tailored to individual needs
- Competently transitioning between classes, age groups and learning styles
- Assisting with personal needs, mobility and sensory needs (where required)
- Consistently encouraging confidence, independence, and emotional wellbeing
- Working collaboratively with teachers and support staff to create a safe, inclusive environment
How you will stand out:
- Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEN (or a clear desire to gain this experience)
- Past experiences where you have had to think outside of the box – can be personal, academic or career related
- Has a strong desire for career progression and personal development
- Flexible on location, or willingness to travel to different locations
- Excited about change and fast-paced environments
- Strong communication skills and a clear dedication to safeguarding
- Be yourself! – we love to see individual interests, hobbies, niche skills etc!
Requirements (or willingness to obtain)
To be eligible for this role, you must be 18+ and either already have or be happy to apply for:
- Education Workforce Council (EWC) registration
- Enhanced Child & Adult DBS on the update service
- Level 2 Safeguarding training (provided)
- At least two professional references covering a 24-month period
(Don’t worry, Teaching Personnel will guide and support you through the process)

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
