SEN Teaching Assistant

At Teaching Personnel we are working closely with a primary schools in the Haywards Heath area that has asked us to recruit a 1:1/learning support assistant. The roles will be supporting the needs of a particular children in the reception class with some SEN needs such as 1 child with visual impairment and global delay, 1 child with hearing impairment as well as supporting other SEND children with emotional regulation.  The positions will begin as soon as possible 2023 and the schools have indicated that they will move into a permanent position with them for the right candidate after a period of review.

What does it take to be a 1:1 Teaching Assistant?

• Passion for education
• Patience and understanding
• No formal educational qualifications necessary - however experience of SEN needs is essential.
• Minimum 5 GCSEs in core subjects
• Enhanced DBS Certificate available on the Update service (Teaching Personnel can assist)

Job role:

• Reading or explaining tasks to the child, understanding, and supporting their needs and keeping them focused on their tasks.
• Manage challenging behaviours.
• Support the teacher to maintain learning and help children access the curriculum.
