Job Duties

  • Provide support and assistance to students with special educational needs (SEN) in a classroom setting
  • Work closely with teachers and other education professionals to implement individualised education plans (IEPs)
  • Assist with the planning and delivery of lessons, adapting materials and resources to meet the needs of SEN students
  • Support students in developing their social, emotional, and behavioural skills
  • Help students with personal care tasks, such as eating, toileting, and dressing, if required
  • Supervise and facilitate activities to promote learning and engagement
  • Monitor and record student progress, providing feedback to teachers and parents/guardians
  • Collaborate with the SEN team to develop strategies and interventions to support student development
  • Ensure a safe and inclusive learning environment for all students

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Level 2 qualification in a relevant field (e.g., Supporting Teaching and Learning, Childcare)
  • Experience working with children or young people with SEN
  • Good understanding of different SEN conditions and their impact on learning
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude towards supporting student development
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to safeguarding policies

Education, Experience, Knowledge and Skills

  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics
  • Experience working in an educational setting, preferably with SEN students
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and policies related to SEN
  • Familiarity with assistive technology and resources for SEN students
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • Ability to adapt and respond to changing needs and situations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Level 3 qualification in a relevant field (e.g., Supporting Teaching and Learning, Special Educational Needs)
  • First Aid certification
  • Training in behaviour management techniques

Working Conditions

The role of an SEN Teaching Assistant is primarily based in a school or educational setting. The work may involve assisting students with personal care tasks and require standing, bending, and lifting. The position operates during regular school hours, following the academic calendar. Occasional collaboration with external professionals and attendance at meetings may be required.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
