Job description

Teaching Personnel is looking for an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist education setting in Frome.

This is a full-time opportunity for someone who already understands SEND and is confident stepping into a busy specialist environment and hitting the ground running.

The setting supports children and young people with complex and severe learning needs, with every pupil having an EHCP. Learning is highly personalised, with a focus on helping pupils develop academic, functional and independence skills alongside their wider development.

What Will You Be Doing?

Working alongside teachers and the wider team, you will:

  • Provide individual and small-group support throughout the school day.
  • Adapt your approach to pupils’ different abilities, communication styles and needs.
  • Encourage engagement, independence and confidence in learning.
  • Help pupils regulate, transition between activities and follow familiar routines.
  • Support academic, functional and life skills.
  • Recognise that progress looks different for every young person and celebrate those important milestones.
  • Maintain a safe, positive and consistent learning environment.

Who Are We Looking For?

We need someone with previous experience supporting children or young people with SEND who can quickly become a dependable member of the team.

You will need to be patient, observant, resilient and adaptable. These pupils need adults who take the time to understand how they communicate, remain calm when things are challenging and provide consistent boundaries and encouragement.

Most importantly, you should genuinely enjoy helping young people achieve things they may once have found difficult.
