Are you an experienced education professional looking for a fresh opportunity in Sherborne?

We are seeking a confident and capable SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist setting on a full-time basis from October 2026.

This vacancy is suited to someone who already understands the demands of supporting pupils with special educational needs and/or SEMH needs.

Previous relevant experience is important, as the successful candidate will need to hit the ground running, establish positive connections with pupils and contribute effectively from the outset.

What Will You Be Doing?

No two days within specialist education are exactly the same. You will play an important role in helping young people feel settled, understood and able to participate in their education.

• Assisting pupils during lessons and practical activities.
• Delivering individual or small-group interventions.
• Encouraging engagement, independence and confidence.
• Responding appropriately to challenging behaviour or emotional dysregulation.
• Maintaining clear expectations and consistent routines.
• Working alongside teachers and other professionals to meet individual targets.
• Supporting pupils with their wider social and emotional development.

This is a full-time role, so we are looking for someone who can provide continuity and become a familiar, reliable presence for the young people.

What Experience Are We Looking For?

You may currently be working as an SEN Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, Behaviour Support Worker, Youth Worker or in another relevant specialist position.

We need people who are comfortable working with additional needs and understand how important patience, resilience and consistency can be. You should be able to adapt your communication style, remain composed under pressure and recognise when a pupil may need a different approach.

Above all, we are looking for someone who genuinely wants to work within SEND and can confidently hit the ground running.
