SEN/SEMH Behaviour Support Mentor – Mainstream Primary School, Bournemouth (ASAP Start)

Location: Bournemouth
Start Date: ASAP
Pay: From £14 per hour
Contract: Supply – Temp to Perm

A welcoming and inclusive mainstream primary school in Bournemouth is seeking a compassionate and resilient SEN / SEMH Behaviour Support Mentor to join their team as soon as possible. The school supports primary-aged pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs, anxiety, and barriers to learning within a mainstream setting.

This is a role where you will become a consistent and trusted adult for children who need stability, patience, and understanding. Your presence will help pupils feel safe, supported, and ready to engage with learning.

Who This Role Would Suit

This position is ideal for individuals with experience supporting children or young people in a variety of settings. We welcome applicants from backgrounds such as:

  • Psychology, counselling, or therapeutic studies

  • Youth work, mentoring, or community-based roles

  • Sports coaching or activity leadership

  • Care, social work, or early years settings

  • SEN or SEMH support roles

Key Responsibilities

  • Support primary pupils with SEMH needs, anxiety, and behavioural challenges

  • Use trauma-informed and child-centred approaches to support development

  • Help pupils regulate emotions and build confidence

  • Encourage engagement in learning through patience, consistency, and positive reinforcement

  • Work closely with teachers, pastoral staff, and the inclusion team

What We Are Looking For

  • A warm, empathetic, and flexible approach

  • Experience supporting children with SEN, SEMH, or communication needs (advantageous)

  • Strong behaviour management and relationship-building skills

  • A genuine commitment to supporting children, even on their most challenging days

Requirements

  • Right to work in the UK

  • Enhanced DBS (or willingness to apply)

  • References covering the last 24 months

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
