Job Description: SEN Teaching Assistant

Job Summary

We are currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join our team in West Midlands, Birmingham. This is a temporary position, with expected full-time work hours. As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will be responsible for providing support to students with special educational needs (SEN) in an educational setting. Your role will involve assisting the class teacher, implementing individual education plans (IEPs), and promoting a positive learning environment.

Job Duties

  • Supporting students with SEN in their academic and personal development
  • Assisting the class teacher in delivering lessons and activities
  • Implementing individual education plans (IEPs) and monitoring progress
  • Providing one-to-one support to students who require additional help
  • Helping students with their social and emotional well-being
  • Creating and maintaining a positive and inclusive learning environment
  • Collaborating with other educational professionals and parents/guardians
  • Assisting with administrative tasks related to student records and documentation
  • Participating in training and professional development activities

Required Qualifications

  • Teaching Assistant Level 2 qualification

Education

A minimum of a Teaching Assistant Level 2 qualification is required for this position.

Experience

Prior experience working in a similar role, supporting students with SEN, is desirable but not essential.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong understanding of special educational needs (SEN) and related strategies
  • Ability to effectively assist in the implementation of individual education plans (IEPs)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Empathy and patience when working with students with SEN
  • Ability to create a positive and inclusive learning environment
  • Basic administrative skills for maintaining student records and documentation

Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience or additional qualifications in working with students with social, emotional, and mental health needs (SEMH) would be advantageous.

Working Conditions

You will be working in an educational setting, primarily within a classroom environment. The role may require occasional flexibility in working hours to accommodate student needs. You will collaborate closely with the class teacher and other educational professionals, as well as engage with parents/guardians. The work can be rewarding but may also be challenging, requiring patience and resilience.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
