Outstanding SEN Teacher Required

Teaching Personnel is working in partnership with a highly regarded specialist primary school in Bury to recruit an exceptional Class Teacher for September 2026.

This specialist setting supports pupils aged 3–11 years with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The school is seeking a skilled and passionate educator who is committed to delivering outstanding outcomes for children with complex needs.

This role is ideally suited to an experienced SEN practitioner who understands the importance of personalised learning, communication development, and preparing pupils for greater independence. Previous SEN teaching experience within a specialist setting is essential.

The Role

As a Class Teacher, you will lead a dedicated classroom team, delivering highly personalised learning programmes tailored to each pupil's individual strengths, needs, and EHCP outcomes.

You will create an engaging, inclusive, and structured learning environment where pupils can develop academically, socially, emotionally, and functionally. Working alongside Teaching Assistants, therapists, and families, you will play a key role in ensuring every child can access meaningful learning opportunities and achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver high-quality, personalised lessons for pupils with PMLD, SLD, and ASD
• Lead and manage a team of Teaching Assistants to ensure outstanding classroom provision
• Monitor, assess, and track pupil progress against EHCP outcomes and personalised targets
• Implement specialist teaching approaches to support communication, sensory, and developmental needs
• Create engaging learning experiences that promote independence, confidence, and life skills
• Work collaboratively with therapists, external professionals, and families to provide holistic support
• Foster a positive, nurturing classroom culture where every pupil feels valued and supported
• Use positive behaviour support strategies to help pupils regulate, engage, and succeed
• Contribute to whole-school development and uphold the school's inclusive ethos

The Ideal Candidate

Essential

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
• Proven experience teaching pupils with SEND within a specialist SEN setting
• Strong understanding of PMLD, SLD, ASD, and complex learning needs
• Experience writing, implementing, and reviewing EHCP outcomes
• Knowledge and experience of specialist communication and learning approaches, including PECS, Makaton, AAC, and sensory-based learning
• Ability to adapt teaching to meet a wide range of communication, sensory, physical, and learning needs
• Experience working collaboratively with therapists, families, and multidisciplinary teams
• Strong classroom leadership and organisational skills
• High expectations for pupils and a commitment to achieving outstanding outcomes
• Resilient, reflective, and passionate about specialist education

Desirable

• Team Teach or equivalent positive behaviour support training
• Additional SEND qualifications or specialist SEN training
