Job description

Maths Teacher or SEN Teacher – SEMH

Teaching that makes a real difference

We are looking for a committed teacher to join a specialist secondary SEMH setting supporting pupils aged 11 to 16. The role is primarily for a Maths teacher, but we welcome applications from strong general SEN teachers who are not Maths specialists. The role can be shaped around the right person, so please apply if you feel this could be a good fit.

About the pupils

Pupils have a range of social, emotional and mental health needs, including trauma, anxiety, ADHD and autism. Many have experienced disrupted education and benefit from small classes, consistent routines and positive, trusting relationships. With the right support, they make strong progress academically and personally.

About the role

You will teach Maths across Key Stages 3 and 4 where appropriate, adapting learning to meet individual needs. Non-specialists will be supported to deliver Maths alongside a broader SEN role. You will work closely with teaching assistants and pastoral staff within a calm, trauma-informed setting.

Why join us?

  • Small class sizes and strong staff support

  • A welcoming, supportive team and approachable leadership

  • The freedom to teach creatively and focus on relationships

  • High job satisfaction from seeing pupils re-engage and succeed

Who we are looking for

You must hold Qualified Teacher Status. We welcome applicants from SEMH, SEN, alternative provision and mainstream backgrounds. Maths specialists are encouraged to apply, but a strong SEN teacher with the right attitude is equally valued.

How to apply

Please apply with your CV. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis and the vacancy may close early once an appointment is made, so early applications are encouraged.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQ’s on the Teaching Personnel website for details.
All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
Teaching Personnel is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We undertake safeguarding checks on all workers in accordance with DfE statutory guidance ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’ this may also include an online search as part of our due diligence on shortlisted applicants.
We offer all our registered candidates FREE child protection and prevent duty training. All candidates must undertake or have undertaken a valid enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Full assistance provided.
