SEN Teachers – January Start – Andover, Hampshire

Paid to Teacher Pay Scale- dependent on experience

Primary and secondary SEN (Special Educational Needs) schools and specialist provisions in Andover and the surrounding areas are seeking fully qualified teachers for January start dates. These settings support pupils with autism, learning difficulties, communication needs, sensory processing differences, and a range of cognitive and developmental profiles. Schools are looking for skilled, adaptable, and compassionate teachers who can deliver high-quality, individualised learning in specialist environments.

About the Pupils and Their Needs

You will be teaching pupils who may experience:

  • Autism spectrum conditions, including communication differences, sensory sensitivities, and a strong need for structure

  • Moderate to severe learning difficulties (MLD/SLD)

  • Speech, language, and communication needs (SLCN)

  • Social interaction difficulties or challenges understanding social cues

  • Cognitive delays affecting memory, processing, and problem-solving

  • Sensory processing challenges that may result in overload, shutdowns, or avoidance

  • High anxiety around transitions, unfamiliar tasks, or changes to routine

These pupils thrive with clear structure, predictable routines, and a teacher who can adapt their practice thoughtfully. You will be central in helping them make progress academically, socially, and emotionally as well as developing confidence and independence.

 

Role Responsibilities

As an SEN Teacher, you will:

  • Plan and deliver highly differentiated, individualised lessons that meet a wide range of cognitive and communication needs

  • Work closely with TAs, SENCOs, therapists, and specialist staff to support holistic development

  • Use visual supports, communication systems, sensory strategies, and structured teaching approaches (e.g., TEACCH)

  • Create low-arousal, inclusive learning environments where pupils feel safe and supported

  • Implement EHCP targets, track progress, and contribute to annual reviews and specialist reports

  • Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils and use strategies that promote engagement, regulation, and independence

  • Communicate effectively with parents, carers, and multi-agency professionals

  • Where necessary, support personal care routines in a respectful, dignified manner

Who Should Apply

This role is ideal for:

  • Fully qualified teachers (ECTs also considered) with experience in SEN or an interest in specialist education

  • Teachers who have worked in autism, MLD/SLD, complex needs, or alternative provision settings

  • Those confident in highly differentiated planning, creative curriculum design, and multi-agency collaboration

  • Individuals with patience, adaptability, and a commitment to learner-centred practice

  • Teachers passionate about inclusive education and helping pupils develop communication, independence, and life skills

Requirements

  • QTS or QTLS

  • Enhanced Child Workforce DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain)

  • Right to work in the UK
