Position: SEN Teaching Assistant – Nurture Class
Type: Full-time, term-time only (Monday to Friday)
Start Date: September 2025
Setting: Key Stage 3, specialist school supporting students with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs (SEMH), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), including those with Down syndrome
What the role involves
You will work closely with KS3 pupils affected by Down syndrome, often operating below typical KS3 levels. The role includes:

Providing 1:1 and small group support under the direction of the class teacher and SENCo

Helping pupils with tasks that support their cognitive, emotional and social development

Assisting with communication, adapting your approach to each pupil’s needs

Supporting personal care routines—such as toileting, feeding, dressing and hygiene—with sensitivity and respect

Aiding in the preparation and adaptation of learning resources for the nurture environment

Ensuring a safe, inclusive, motivating environment both in class and during learning activities
We’re looking for someone who
-
Has experience in working with young people with SEN, including Down syndrome, ASD, SEMH or SLD

Is patient, empathetic and committed to fostering independence
-
Possesses strong communication skills and can adapt to non-verbal or complex needs
-
Is comfortable assisting with personal care, always maintaining pupil dignity
-
Works well as part of a team and collaborates effectively with colleagues and external agencies
-
Holds or is willing to attain a Level 2/3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning or equivalent (desirable but not essential)

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
