SEN Support Assistant – Visual Impairments / Braille | West Yorkshire

Location: West Yorkshire (flexible)
Daily Rate: £95–£110/day | Contract: Full-time, term-time | Start Date: ASAP

We are seeking an experienced SEN Support Assistant to work with pupils who have visual impairments, including those who use Braille or other specialist access methods. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with experience supporting pupils with sensory needs to make a meaningful impact in education.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with visual impairments

  • Assist pupils in accessing curriculum content using Braille, large print, or assistive technology

  • Support mobility, orientation, and independence skills

  • Collaborate with teachers, VI specialists, and therapists to implement individual learning plans

  • Promote social, emotional, and academic development in a structured, inclusive environment

Requirements:

  • Experience supporting pupils with visual impairments in school, specialist provision, or care settings

  • Knowledge of Braille, assistive technology, or other visual impairment strategies

  • Full DBS on Update Service (or willingness to apply)

  • Full-time availability, Monday to Friday, during school hours

  • Patience, empathy, and excellent communication skills

Desirable:

  • Full UK driving license
  • Background in teaching, care work, or related fields

  • Psychology, education, or specialism in sensory impairment

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
