SEN Support Assistant – British Sign Language / Hearing Impairment | West Yorkshire

Location: West Yorkshire (flexible)
Daily Rate: £90–£105/day | Contract: Full-time, term-time | Start Date: ASAP

We are seeking an experienced SEN Support Assistant to work with pupils who are deaf or hearing impaired, including those who use British Sign Language (BSL). This role is ideal for someone with experience supporting pupils with sensory needs and strong communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with hearing impairments

  • Use BSL or other communication strategies to facilitate learning and engagement

  • Assist pupils in accessing curriculum content and participating fully in class

  • Support social, emotional, and communication development

  • Work closely with teachers, SEN staff, and specialist therapists to implement individual learning plans

  • Promote inclusion and independence for all pupils

Requirements:

  • Proficiency in British Sign Language (BSL Level 2 or above preferred)

  • Experience supporting pupils with hearing impairments in school, specialist provision, or care settings

  • Enhanced DBS on Update Service (or willingness to apply)

  • Full-time availability, Monday to Friday, during school hours

  • Driving licence desirable for travel between sites

  • Empathy, patience, and strong interpersonal skills

Desirable:

  • Previous SEN or TA experience

  • Background in teaching, care work, or related fields

  • Psychology, education, or deaf/HI specialism

  • Full UK driving license

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
