SEN Physical Education Teacher Needed in Okehampton!

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of SEN children through physical education? Teaching Personnel is seeking a dedicated SEN Physical Education Teacher to work with primary and secondary aged students in Okehampton.

Our partner school in Okehampton is an outstanding provider of education for students aged 5-19 with Special Educational Needs, including those with Autism, learning disabilities, communication challenges, and emotional/behavioural difficulties. The school provides a holistic, child-centred approach to learning, offering a safe and welcoming environment where students can develop academically, socially, and emotionally. The school offers a bespoke curriculum, designed to meet the individual needs of each student, with a strong focus on building essential life skills, independence, and confidence.

Position Details:

  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Contract Type: Full-Time, Temporary to Permanent
  • Pay: £170 - £250 per day + SEN Allowence

Role Requirements:

  • Design and Deliver Adapted PE Lessons: Create engaging, differentiated PE lessons tailored to meet a wide range of additional needs, including autism spectrum condition (ASC), social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH), and moderate learning difficulties (MLD).
  • Support Emotional and Physical Development: Encourage confidence, resilience, and social interaction through structured physical activities, supporting students' physical and emotional wellbeing.
  • Create a Safe, Inclusive Environment: Use effective classroom and behaviour management strategies to establish a positive, inclusive atmosphere where all pupils feel safe, supported, and motivated.
  • Use Individualised Learning Plans (ILPs): Work closely with SENCOs and support staff to integrate EHCP targets and personalised outcomes into PE sessions.

Qualifications:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent teaching qualification (e.g. PGCE, QTLS)
  • Experience working with SEN pupils in a school or alternative provision setting — particularly within PE or sports coaching environments.
  • Strong knowledge of inclusive teaching practices, physical development strategies, and adaptive sports equipment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build strong, trusting relationships with pupils and staff.
  • A genuine passion for supporting young people with additional needs and helping them reach their potential.
