SEMH Teaching Assistant

The Head Teacher of a Pupil Referral Unit located in the Sunderland area is searching for a Teaching Assistant to work within its small class groups of secondary pupils who are unable, for various reasons, to continue in mainstream education.

This role will be held on a full time basis and will commence in January, it will be ongoing until the end of the Easter however there is strong potential for this to continue further should you be successful in the role.

The position will involve working with a small group of students across Key Stage 3 with varying Social, Emotional and Mental Health Difficulties. The candidate will need to be confident in managing challenging behaviour as well as being enthusiastic and a positive role model for the students! You will be working with children from a mix of backgrounds, including children in looked after care. You will play a large role in the monitoring of students progress and development both in terms of their academic and personal achievements.

Ideally for this role, you will have experience with challenging behaviour and will be confident managing this. We welcome applicants from a variety of backgrounds including social and youth work. You will have the opportunity to work alongside experienced special needs teachers as well as specialist teaching assistants. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
