SEMH Teaching Assistant – Full Time
Skelmersdale
Temporary to Permanent Opportunity
A specialist community school in Skelmersdale is seeking a resilient and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to join their dedicated team on a full-time basis. This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about supporting children and young people with social, emotional and mental health needs in a nurturing and structured educational environment.
The school provides specialist support for pupils who require additional emotional and behavioural support to access education successfully. Staff work closely together to create a safe, consistent and engaging learning environment where pupils are encouraged to build confidence, regulate emotions and achieve positive outcomes both academically and personally.
The successful candidate will work closely with teaching staff to support pupils both inside and outside of the classroom. You will help students engage with learning, manage behaviour positively and develop important social and emotional skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supporting pupils with SEMH needs on a 1:1 basis and in small groups
- Building positive and trusting relationships with students
- Supporting behaviour management strategies in line with school policies
- Encouraging engagement within lessons and structured activities
- Promoting emotional regulation and positive social interaction
- Assisting teachers with classroom preparation and daily routines
- Providing a calm, patient and consistent approach throughout the school day
The Ideal Candidate Will:
- Have experience working with children or young people with SEMH, SEN or behavioural needs
- Have a background in education, care, youth work, sports coaching or support work
- Be confident managing challenging behaviour in a professional manner
- Be patient, resilient and adaptable
- Be passionate about supporting vulnerable young people
- Be able to build strong professional relationships with pupils and staff

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
