We are recruiting a SEMH Teaching Assistant to support pupils with social, emotional, and mental health needs in a specialist school near Norwich. This is a rewarding role, but it is also one that requires patience, resilience, and a positive attitude.
The school supports young people who may have struggled in mainstream education and can sometimes present challenging behaviour. As a result, this role is best suited to someone who can remain calm under pressure, build positive relationships, and provide consistency and support, even on difficult days.
What You'll Be Doing
- Supporting pupils in the classroom and around the school
- Helping students engage with learning and achieve their goals
- Managing challenging situations calmly and professionally
- Providing encouragement, structure, and positive role modelling
- Working closely with teachers and support staff to create a safe learning environment
What We're Looking For
- A resilient and patient individual who doesn't give up easily
- Someone who can stay calm when faced with challenging behaviour
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- A positive and proactive approach to supporting young people
- Previous experience in education, care, support work, youth work, or similar environments is beneficial but not essential
Important Information

About the School
The school provides specialist education for pupils who are unable to attend mainstream settings and supports students from Year 1 to Year 11. Staff work closely with families and the wider community to help pupils overcome barriers to learning and achieve positive outcomes. While the environment can be challenging at times, it is also incredibly rewarding for those who are committed to helping young people succeed.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
