Location: Old Swan, Liverpool (L13)
Contract: Full-time, Long-Term
Start Date: September 2026
Pay Rate: £14.25 – 15.25 per hour (dependent on experience)
Are you dedicated to supporting children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? Looking for a rewarding role where you can make a genuine difference every day? Teaching Personnel is seeking a compassionate and proactive SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a specialist educational setting in Old Swan, Liverpool, from September 2026.
The Role
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in helping pupils thrive both academically and emotionally. Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing tailored 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with SEMH needs and associated learning barriers.
- Delivering targeted interventions that promote emotional wellbeing, resilience, and positive behaviour.
- Working collaboratively with teachers, the SENCO, and pastoral teams to support individual learning and development plans.
- Creating a safe, nurturing, and structured environment where pupils feel supported and valued.
- Encouraging engagement, confidence, and independence both inside and outside the classroom.
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for individuals who:
- Have experience working with children or young people with SEMH, ASD, ADHD, or behavioural needs.
- Demonstrate patience, empathy, and resilience when supporting pupils with complex needs.
- Can build strong, trusting relationships that positively influence pupil outcomes.
- Possess excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Are adaptable, proactive, and committed to making a positive impact.
- Hold a relevant qualification or training in SEN, behaviour management, youth work, or a related field (desirable).

By Bus Frequent services including the 10, 10A, 60, 62, and 68 operate through Old Swan, providing convenient routes throughout the city. Key bus stops are located along Prescot Road and Derby Lane.
