SEMH Teaching Assistant

Burnley (11–16 Setting)

£13.75 – £14.50 per hour

Monday–Friday | 8:30am–3:30pm

We are seeking a resilient, compassionate and confident SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a specialist secondary provision in Burnley, supporting students aged 11–16 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

This is a rewarding opportunity for someone with strong behaviour management skills and experience supporting young people with challenging behaviours, either professionally or through relevant personal experience.

The Role:

  • Supporting students with SEMH needs in and out of the classroom

  • Managing and de-escalating challenging behaviours using positive behaviour strategies

  • Building strong, trusting relationships with pupils

  • Supporting learning, emotional regulation and social development

  • Working closely with teaching staff and pastoral teams to provide consistent support

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Proven experience working with challenging behaviours (school, youth work, care, PRU, alternative provision, or similar) or relevant personal experience

  • Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills

  • A calm, patient and resilient approach

  • The ability to set clear boundaries while remaining empathetic

  • A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
