Job description

We are looking for a resilient and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to support children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs.

This is a full-time position with an immediate start, working with pupils aged 3 to 18 across both primary and secondary phases. Working hours are 8.45am to 3.30pm, making this an excellent opportunity for educators seeking a rewarding role with work–life balance.

You will be joining a highly regarded specialist learning environment known for its nurturing, trauma-informed approach.

The setting focuses on helping pupils feel safe, valued and understood, enabling them to re-engage with learning and develop positive behaviours. Staff work closely as a team and are well supported by strong leadership and clear behaviour strategies.


Student Needs

Pupils may present with a range of needs, including:

  • SEMH needs linked to anxiety, trauma or attachment difficulties

  • Challenging behaviour and emotional regulation difficulties

  • Additional learning or communication needs


Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting pupils in the classroom and during interventions

  • Building positive, trusting relationships to encourage engagement

  • Helping pupils manage emotions and behaviour positively

  • Working collaboratively with teachers and support staff


Experience Required

  • A minimum of 6 months childcare experience, particularly supporting children with SEN or SEMH needs

  • A calm, patient and consistent approach

  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
