Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Blackpool, Lancashire
Pay Rate: £13.75 – £14.50 per hour

About the Role

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) Teaching Assistant to join a specialist secondary provision in Blackpool. This setting supports students aged 11–16 who have Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and require tailored support to overcome barriers to learning and personal development.

The school provides a nurturing environment where students can thrive academically and emotionally. As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will play a pivotal role in helping students engage with their education, develop positive behaviours, and build resilience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one and small group support to students with SEMH needs.
  • Assist in implementing personalised learning plans and behavioural strategies.
  • Foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment.
  • Support students in developing social skills, self-esteem, and emotional regulation.
  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other professionals to deliver holistic support.
  • Monitor and report on student progress and behaviour.

Requirements

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs is desirable.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and a proactive approach to supporting students facing emotional and behavioural challenges.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • A relevant qualification (e.g., Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant) is advantageous.
  • Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
