Job Title: SEN Teacher – Specialist SEMH Provision

Location: Andover, Hampshire
Salary: In line with Teacher Pay Scale
Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent
Start Date: September 2026 (earlier start available for the successful candidate)

SEN Teacher – Specialist SEMH School

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and committed SEN Teacher to join a new specialist SEMH school opening in the Andover area.

This appointment offers the opportunity to become part of a founding team and contribute to establishing a high-quality, inclusive learning environment for children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

The school will provide specialist education for pupils aged 4–16, with the successful candidate primarily supporting pupils within the primary phase. Pupils may present with SEMH needs alongside additional learning differences and may be working below age-related expectations.

This role would suit a teacher who is committed to inclusive practice and who values relationship-based approaches to supporting pupils to achieve both academically and personally.

The Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality, differentiated teaching that supports engagement, promotes progress, and enables pupils to develop confidence and independence.

Working within small class groups and alongside experienced support staff, you will create structured and positive learning experiences tailored to individual pupil needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging and differentiated lessons to meet a range of individual learning needs

  • Create a safe, structured, and nurturing classroom environment

  • Support pupils with SEMH needs through consistent and positive behaviour approaches

  • Adapt teaching for pupils working below age-related expectations

  • Develop positive relationships that promote engagement, wellbeing, and progress

  • Work collaboratively with Learning Support Assistants, therapists, and external professionals

  • Monitor and assess pupil progress across academic, social, and emotional development

  • Contribute to the wider development of the school community and specialist provision

Person Specification

Essential Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

  • Experience within primary, SEN, SEMH, specialist, or alternative provision settings

  • Strong adaptive teaching and inclusive classroom practice

  • Ability to establish positive and effective relationships with pupils who may display behaviours that challenge

  • A calm, reflective, and resilient approach to teaching

Desirable Experience

  • Previous experience within specialist SEMH provision

  • Knowledge of trauma-informed, attachment-aware, or restorative approaches

  • Experience supporting pupils with additional learning needs and/or Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)

  • Understanding of strategies that support emotional regulation and engagement
