Are you passionate about supporting young people with complex Special Educational Needs such as Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Global Developmental Delay, Profound & Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), non-verbal communication needs, sensory processing difficulties, and challenging behaviour linked to complex cognitive profiles? Teaching Personnel are working with a specialist secondary school in Bury that supports pupils with a broad range of complex needs, and we are seeking a committed SEN Teaching Assistant to join their dedicated team.


Key Responsibilities

As an SEN Teaching Assistant in a complex needs setting, you will:

  • Support pupils with a range of complex learning, communication, and sensory needs through tailored, structured learning activities.
  • Use visual supports, sensory tools, and communication systems to enhance engagement.
  • Assist with personal care routines when required, ensuring dignity, safety, and consistency.
  • Work alongside teachers, therapists, and SEN specialists to follow individual education plans (IEPs) and bespoke support strategies.
  • Implement behaviour regulation strategies and maintain a calm, supportive environment for pupils who experience high levels of anxiety or dysregulation.
  • Monitor pupil progress, engagement, and wellbeing, providing accurate feedback to staff and contributing to reviews and planning meetings.

Experience & Requirements

To be considered, you must have:

  • Experience supporting complex SEN needs, ideally within an education, care, or specialist provision setting.
  • A patient, compassionate, and proactive approach with the ability to adapt quickly to individual needs.
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
  • References covering the last 24 months.
  • A commitment to high-level safeguarding practice – safeguarding training is provided by Teaching Personnel.
