Teaching Personnel are recruiting for a SEMH Teacher to join a specialist secondary school in the Trafford area from September. This full-time role is ideal for an experienced teacher or a passionate educator looking to make a real difference to the lives of young people who require additional emotional and behavioural support.

The school caters for students aged 11-16 with a range of Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, including ADHD, Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), anxiety, trauma, attachment difficulties, low self-esteem, emotional dysregulation, and challenging behaviour. Many pupils have experienced significant barriers to education and require a patient, nurturing, and consistent approach to learning.

The Role

As an SEMH Teacher, you will:

  • Deliver engaging and differentiated lessons that meet the individual needs of learners.
  • Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes learning and emotional wellbeing.
  • Support pupils to develop confidence, resilience, and positive coping strategies.
  • Implement behaviour management strategies and restorative approaches.
  • Monitor progress and adapt teaching to ensure all students can achieve their potential.
  • Work collaboratively with support staff, SENCOs, parents, and external professionals.
  • Encourage positive relationships and help students overcome barriers to learning.

Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • Experience teaching secondary-aged pupils.
  • Strong behaviour management and classroom leadership skills.
  • An understanding of SEMH needs and trauma-informed practice.
  • The ability to build strong, positive relationships with vulnerable young people.
  • A resilient, adaptable, and empathetic approach.
