GCSE Tutor – SEMH Secondary Provision

Full-Time | September Start | Wigan Area | Teaching Personnel

Are you passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential? Teaching Personnel is recruiting a full-time GCSE Tutor for a specialist SEMH secondary provision in the Wigan area, starting in September.

You will support students aged 11–16 with a range of Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, including Autism, low self-esteem, behavioural challenges, and communication and interaction difficulties. Many pupils have experienced disrupted education and require tailored academic support, consistency, and positive relationships to help them re-engage with learning and succeed in their GCSE studies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality GCSE tuition to individuals and small groups.
  • Support students in core subjects including English, Maths, and Science.
  • Adapt learning resources to suit varying abilities and learning styles.
  • Develop positive, professional relationships with students to encourage engagement.
  • Support pupils in overcoming barriers to learning and achieving academic targets.
  • Track and monitor student progress, providing feedback to the wider school team.
  • Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation strategies.
  • Create a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral staff, and SEN professionals.

What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate will have:

✅ Experience working with young people with SEMH needs.

✅ Strong knowledge of the GCSE curriculum.

✅ Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.

✅ The ability to engage and motivate learners who may have become disengaged from education.

✅ A patient, resilient, and empathetic approach.

✅ Experience delivering tuition, teaching, mentoring, or educational support.

✅ Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is desirable but not essential.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
