Position: Secondary English Teacher Start Date: September Location: Plymouth

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality English language and literature lessons, catering to the diverse needs and abilities of secondary school students.
  • Foster a stimulating and inclusive classroom environment that encourages active participation and cultivates a deep appreciation for the English language.
  • Develop and implement engaging teaching strategies, resources, and technology to enhance students' reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills.
  • Assess and monitor student progress, providing constructive feedback and support to facilitate their academic growth.
  • Utilize a range of assessment strategies to evaluate students' understanding and attainment of curriculum objectives.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop schemes of work, share resources, and contribute to the ongoing improvement of the English department.
  • Engage in regular professional development activities to remain up-to-date with best practices in English education.

Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) in the UK or equivalent, with a relevant degree in English or a related field.
  • Proven experience teaching English at the secondary school level, preferably following the UK curriculum.
  • A deep knowledge and understanding of English language and literature, including excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Passion for fostering a love of reading, critical thinking, and effective communication skills among students.
  • Strong classroom management skills, maintaining a positive and respectful learning environment.
  • Ability to differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of students, including those with special educational needs or English as an additional language.
  • Collaborative mindset, with a willingness to actively contribute to departmental initiatives and participate in the wider school community.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
