Science Teacher
Job description
Are you a Science Teacher who believes curiosity can change lives?
We are seeking a passionate, resilient and nurturing Science Teacher to join our specialist school supporting pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, including ADHD, Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), trauma-related behaviours, attachment difficulties and other behavioural challenges.
This role is ideal for a teacher who understands that engagement comes through relationships first — and who is committed to helping pupils reconnect with learning through practical, accessible and inspiring science lessons.
About the Role
You will:
- Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated Science lessons across KS3 and KS4 – all students learn at different levels, with some aiming for GCSE
- Adapt teaching strategies to meet diverse SEMH and SEND needs
- Create a safe, structured and inclusive learning environment
- Use trauma-informed and restorative approaches to behaviour
- Deliver practical and theory-based lessons that promote curiosity and critical thinking
- Track pupil progress and contribute to EHCP reviews where appropriate
- Work collaboratively with pastoral teams, behaviour support staff and senior leaders
Class sizes are small, allowing you to focus on individual progress, safety in practical work, and strong relationship-building.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Experience teaching Science up to GCSE level (Biology, Chemistry or Physics specialism welcome)
- Experience working with pupils with SEMH, SEND, or in alternative provision (desirable but not essential)
- Strong behaviour management skills rooted in empathy and consistency
- The ability to differentiate creatively and deliver safe, engaging practical lessons
Early Career Teachers with the right mindset, adaptability and resilience are welcome to apply.
Essential Personality Traits
We are looking for a teacher who is:
- Calm and emotionally intelligent – able to de-escalate situations thoughtfully
- Resilient and consistent – maintaining high expectations with compassion
- Patient and understanding – recognising that behaviour communicates unmet needs
- Flexible and adaptable – able to adjust lessons to suit energy levels and emotional states
- Enthusiastic and curious – bringing science to life in meaningful ways
- Relational in approach – building trust as the foundation for learning
A good sense of humour and the ability to celebrate small steps of progress are highly valued in this setting.
What We Offer:
- Small class sizes and additional classroom support
- A supportive leadership team that prioritises staff wellbeing
- Ongoing CPD in trauma-informed practice, SEMH strategies and behaviour support
- The opportunity to make a lasting and life-changing impact
If you are committed to inclusive education, believe every young person deserves a champion, and want to teach in a setting where relationships matter as much as results, we would love to hear from you.
