Teaching Personnel is currently looking for a SEN and SEMH Teaching Assistant to work at one of our client schools in central Manchester. This position is due to start in September and it will be a full-time role.
Our client school is looking for someone who is either experienced in working with children with special needs or a recent psychology graduate with a good understanding of SEN or SEMH requirements and is enthusiastic about starting a career in education.
The salary for this position is £385 to £450 per week.
This is a highly important position, with the potential to really make a difference in the development of the most vulnerable students in the school. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting the teaching staff in caring for the most vulnerable students. Predominantly, you will be working alongside children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) issues. SEMH pupils will often display signs of anti-social and uncooperative behaviour and withdrawn attitudes. Therefore, this has the potential to be a challenging but rewarding position.
Key responsibilities:
- Assisting teachers by working with smaller groups of children or on a 1 to 1 basis to target their individual learning needs.
- Building relationships with the pupils to ensure that you can help them to the best of their ability.
- Support students with their Education Healthcare Plans (EHCPs).
This school is in Central Manchester, easily commutable from areas such as Beswick, Openshaw, Gorton and Ancoats. Over 50% of their students are currently eligible for free school meals and their percentage of students who require additional SEN support is almost double that of the national average. This school is in a disadvantaged area and behavioural issues are common.
The highlight of this position is the rewarding nature of the work. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to help those pupils who are far more vulnerable than their peers. For graduates, this is a great opportunity to gain experience and start a career in education.
For this position, it is essential that you are either experienced in working alongside children with special needs, alternatively you must be a recent Psychology Graduate who is enthusiastic about education and child development. You must be willing to apply for a fully enhanced DBS check and be able to provide at least two employment references.
If this position is of interest to you, please apply now by uploading a recent copy of your CV.
All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQ’s on the Teaching Personnel website for details.
All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
Teaching Personnel is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We undertake safeguarding checks on all workers in accordance with DfE statutory guidance ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’ this may also include an online search as part of our due diligence on shortlisted applicants.
