Psychology Graduate – SEN Teaching Assistant

Location: Birmingham (North)
Contract: Full-time, Temporary to Permanent
Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:30am–3:30pm
Salary: £1,200–£1,500 per month

Are you a recent Psychology graduate looking to gain hands-on experience supporting young people with additional needs? This is an excellent opportunity to build valuable experience in a highly respected independent SEN school while making a genuine difference every day.

Teaching Personnel are working in partnership with an Outstanding-rated Special Educational Needs school in Birmingham (North), supporting pupils aged 7–18 with a range of complex needs, including Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH), Autism, and other SEN.

Recognised as TES SEN School of the Year, and praised by Ofsted for outstanding teaching and pupil progress, this school offers a truly supportive, therapeutic environment. You’ll work alongside experienced educators, psychologists, and occupational therapists, gaining exposure that is ideal for those considering careers in educational psychology, clinical psychology, mental health, or teaching.

Your Role Will Include:

  • Supporting teachers in delivering engaging and structured lessons
  • Providing 1:1 support to pupils who need additional guidance
  • Leading small group interventions
  • Supporting emotional regulation and positive behaviour
  • Monitoring progress and feeding back to teaching staff

We’re Looking For Someone Who:

  • Holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology (or a related field)
  • Has an interest in SEN, SEMH, or behaviour support (experience desirable, not essential)
  • Is passionate about supporting young people and inclusive education
  • Is patient, resilient, and keen to learn
  • Holds a clear and current DBS, or is willing to apply for one

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
