Primary Teacher
Teaching Personnel are seeking to recruit a PMLD teacher to join a primary specialist provision in Nelson. The provision caters for children ages 2-11 with a range of disabilities including Moderate, Severe and Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties, Physical Disabilities, Autistic Spectrum Conditions. The school pride themselves on the opportunities that they offer their children and the interventions and therapies that they offer.
A teacher within this setting will provide an engaging, exciting curriculum which will meet the needs of all the children in the class according to the SEND aims of the setting. The children who attend this setting will have an EHCP in place and therefore excellent utilisation of additional staff in the classroom must be implemented to provide the best possible outcomes for the pupils. Attention must be made for the sensory and educational aims, and these should be presented in the activities that are planned and facilitated.
Experience within a similar setting is desirable, not essential, however, the applicant must have a keen interest in supporting children with additional needs and have a desire to make a positive impact on children not only academically, but socially, emotionally, and physically.
PMLD Teacher:
- Set high expectations which inspire, motivate and challenge pupils.
- Promote good progress and outcomes by pupils.
- Demonstrate good subject and curriculum knowledge.
- Plan and teach well-structured lessons.
- Adapt teaching to respond to the strengths and needs of all pupils.
- Make accurate and productive use of assessment.
- Manage behaviour effectively to ensure a good and safe learning environment.
- Fulfil wider professional responsibilities.
- Utilise adults in the classroom to meet the needs of the children.
- Liaise with outside agencies according to the children’s progress and aims.
The role is due to start in September and is initially on a temporary basis until the Summer term 2026. It is a full-time role from Monday – Friday. The pay scale for this role is £140 – 180 a day, dependant on experience and availability.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
