Job description

Make a Difference Before the School Bell Rings at 3:30pm

Primary Teaching Assistant – Full Time
Swansea | Community Primary School

Some jobs are about targets and screens.
This one is about helping a child believe in themselves.

A friendly primary school in Swansea is looking for a full-time Teaching Assistant who brings patience, energy, and genuine care into the classroom. You’ll be part of the school day from morning register to home time — supporting learning, encouraging confidence, and helping children feel safe, seen, and supported.

Who This Role Is Perfect For

You don’t need classroom experience. If you’ve worked with children or young people in any meaningful way, your skills are valuable here.

This role suits people with experience in:

  • Childcare, early years, or nursery settings
  • Health & Social Care or support work
  • Youth work, mentoring, or sports coaching
  • Teaching Assistant or HLTA roles
  • Degrees in Sociology, Social Work, Education, or Childcare

If you’re patient, encouraging, and enjoy helping others succeed, you’ll thrive.

⏰ Hours, Pay & Time Off

  • Working hours: Monday–Friday, 8:30am–3:30pm
  • School holidays: All weekends, half terms & summer holidays off
  • Daily pay: From £89.38 per day

What Your Days Will Look Like

No two days are the same — but most will include:

  • Supporting pupils during lessons by breaking down tasks and encouraging participation
  • Working one-to-one or in small groups with children who need extra reassurance or focus
  • Supporting pupils with additional learning needs (SEN)
  • Helping prepare learning materials, displays, and activities
  • Promoting positive behaviour and emotional regulation
  • Supervising children during break times and transitions
  • Sharing observations with the class teacher to support progress and wellbeing

You’ll be a calm, consistent presence — someone children trust and teachers rely on.

What would the onboarding process look like?

  • Apply by attaching a CV for consideration
  • Shortlisting will take place after 48 hours of the application being submitted (working days)
  • A telephone call will be provided to talk through more detail on the role so you can establish if you wish to move forward and if the role is right for you
  • If happy to proceed, you will then be invited in for interview
  • If successful at interview stage, we will do all of the background work to have you cleared for work ahead of the start date

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQ’s on the Teaching Personnel website for details.
All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
Teaching Personnel is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We undertake safeguarding checks on all workers in accordance with DfE statutory guidance ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’ this may also include an online search as part of our due diligence on shortlisted applicants.
We offer all our registered candidates FREE child protection and prevent duty training. All candidates must undertake or have undertaken a valid enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Full assistance provided.
