Job Title: PMLD Specialist Teaching Assistant (Secondary)
Location: West Yorkshire
Salary: £85 – £100 per day (depending on experience and qualifications)
Contract Type: Full-time / Long-term / Part-time
Start Date: September 2025 

We are recruiting for experienced and compassionate Teaching Assistants to support young people with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) in secondary SEN settings across West Yorkshire.

This role involves working closely with students who have complex physical, medical, and communication needs, often requiring full personal care support. You will play a key part in helping pupils access a sensory and therapeutic curriculum in a calm, safe, and inclusive environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct support to secondary-aged students with PMLD

  • Assist with personal care tasks, including toileting, changing, and feeding

  • Support the delivery of sensory-based learning and therapy-led activities

  • Use or assist with communication systems such as Makaton, PECS, or AAC devices

  • Maintain a consistent and nurturing approach, supporting behaviour and emotional regulation

  • Work collaboratively with class teams and care professionals

Ideal Qualifications & Experience:

  • Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant Qualification (or equivalent)

  • Manual Handling and Personal Care experience

  • Experience working with PMLD or complex SEND (in education, health, or care settings)

  • Knowledge or experience with communication systems (e.g., Makaton, PECS, AAC)

  • Moving and Handling certification (desirable)

  • Basic understanding of medical needs (e.g., PEG feeding, epilepsy care) is an advantage
