We are working on behalf of an alternative provision in Burnley to support the recruitment of a committed and compassionate Pastoral Teaching Assistant.

Location: Burnley
Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm
Pay: Dependent on skills and experience

An alternative provision in Burnley is looking to appoint a Pastoral Teaching Assistant to provide dedicated pastoral care to students with a range of social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs.

This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about supporting young people who may struggle to thrive in a mainstream setting. The successful candidate will play a key role in helping pupils feel safe, understood, and supported throughout the school day.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Offer daily pastoral support to students, helping to create a positive and nurturing environment.

  • Build strong and trusting relationships with pupils, promoting emotional resilience and self-esteem.

  • Work closely with teaching staff, support workers and external professionals to ensure the holistic needs of each student are met.

  • Contribute to behaviour management and intervention strategies using a restorative and trauma-informed approach.

  • Assist with the development and delivery of personalised support plans tailored to individual student needs.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Experience working with young people, ideally within a school, alternative provision, or similar setting.

  • A calm, patient and empathetic approach.

  • Understanding of SEMH needs, safeguarding practices, and the importance of pastoral care.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
