Job description

Pastoral Support Worker – SEN School Settings – Hampshire

Do you have the patience, resilience and compassion to support young people with additional needs both inside and outside the classroom?

Teaching Personnel are currently recruiting for full-time Pastoral Support Workers to work within specialist SEN school settings across: Fawley, Dibden, Totton and Romsey.

These schools support children and young people aged 7–16 with a range of severe and complex needs linked to:

  • Life trauma
  • Autistic Spectrum Conditions (ASC)
  • Attachment disorder
  • Phobias surrounding education

About the Role:

As a Pastoral Support Worker within an SEN school, your role will focus heavily on supporting students’ emotional wellbeing, behaviour and engagement throughout the school day. Many pupils within these settings can struggle with emotional regulation, communication, trust and accessing education due to previous experiences or additional needs.

You will act as a consistent, calm and positive role model for students, helping them feel safe, supported and ready to learn.

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Supporting students during periods of emotional dysregulation or anxiety
  • Helping pupils build confidence, routines and positive relationships
  • De-escalating challenging behaviour in a calm and supportive manner
  • Encouraging engagement within lessons and school activities
  • Providing 1:1 support and mentoring throughout the day
  • Working closely with Teachers, LSAs and wider pastoral teams
  • Supporting students both inside and outside of the classroom environment

The schools offer an incredibly supportive environment with small class sizes of no more than 4 students per class, allowing staff to provide consistent and meaningful support. Every class has a Teacher alongside either an LSA or Pastoral team member at all times.

Requirements:

  • Previous SEN, SEMH, behaviour or pastoral experience is highly desirable
  • Backgrounds in education, care, youth work, residential care or support work are welcomed
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Calm, resilient and empathetic nature
  • Full-time availability
