Part‑Time Teaching Assistant
Location: Preston (SEMH specialist secondary provision)
Hours: Negotiable (term‑time, ideally 2–4 days p/w)
Start Date: September 2025

About the role:

We are seeking a dedicated and resilient Teaching Assistant to work with secondary‑aged pupils who have social, emotional and mental health needs. You’ll support learners both in class and in small groups, helping them to grow in confidence, self‑esteem and academic ability.

Key responsibilities:

  • Support pupils within the classroom and teach small intervention groups.
  • Implement positive behaviour strategies and strong behaviour management techniques.
  • Assist in planning, preparing and delivering tailored learning activities.
  • Maintain accurate records and monitor pupil progress.
  • Foster a safe, respectful and inclusive learning environment.
  • Work closely with teachers, keyworkers and families to support pupil wellbeing.
  • Participate in regular training and reflective practice to develop your skills.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has a strong track record in behaviour management, remaining calm under pressure.
  • Is resilient, empathetic and patient with pupils who may display challenging behaviour.
  • Communicates effectively with pupils, colleagues and parents.
  • Works well both independently and as part of a team.
  • Is organised, flexible and adaptable to changing circumstances.

Essential requirements:

  • Experience working with young people, ideally in an SEMH or special educational needs context.
  • Willingness to undertake an Enhanced DBS check and comply with safeguarding procedures.
  • Basic qualifications: minimum of 5 GCSEs (or equivalent), preferably including English and Maths.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development.
