Job description

The Role

We are seeking a dedicated, experienced Nursery Teacher to join our team on a full-time basis (five days per week). The successful candidate will work in our nursery class, delivering inspiring, evidence-led early years education, with a strong focus on closing gaps, nurturing wellbeing, and working closely with families and other professionals.


Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare and deliver the Early Years Foundation Stage (or Welsh equivalent) curriculum, ensuring high standards of teaching, learning, and assessment.

  • Develop and implement interventions and support for children who may be behind, including those with English as an Additional Language, or other learning/communication needs.

  • Create a stimulating, inclusive and safe learning environment where children feel respected, understood, and inspired.

  • Monitor progress of all children, use assessment data to inform planning and adapt teaching.

  • Work closely with teaching assistants, nursery staff, leadership team and external agencies to support children’s learning, wellbeing and development.

  • Build strong relationships with families, engaging them in the learning process and maintaining effective communication.

  • Contribute to school development plans, participate in staff meetings, professional learning, and whole school activities.


Person Specification

Essential:

  • Qualified teacher status (EYFS / equivalent) with recent, demonstrable experience in a nursery / early years setting.

  • Excellent understanding of early childhood development, early years pedagogy / best practice.

  • Experience of working with children from deprived backgrounds or with additional learning needs; ability to adapt teaching accordingly.

  • Strong interpersonal skills: able to engage and build positive relationships with children, parents, colleagues and outside agencies.

  • Commitment to inclusive education and promoting equality of opportunity.

  • Strong classroom management, organisational and communication skills.

  • Confidence using assessment tools to monitor progress and inform teaching.

Desirable:

  • Experience of working in Welsh context or with Welsh Government’s expectations for early years (if applicable).

  • Experience with specific early years interventions or programmes.

  • Additional relevant qualifications / training (special educational needs, language support, trauma-informed practice etc.).

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
