Mainstream Teaching Assistant – Additional Needs Support

Location: Newport, South Wales
Start Date: ASAP
Hours: Monday to Friday, 08:30 – 15:00 (Term Time Only)
Contract Type: Fixed-Term (with the potential to extend)

We are seeking a compassionate, patient, and proactive Teaching Assistant to join our vibrant secondary school community in Newport. This rewarding role involves working within a mainstream classroom setting, providing individual and small group support to students with additional learning needs including:

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
  • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
  • Global Developmental Delay
  • Prader-Willi Syndrome

This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of young people, supporting their academic, emotional, and social development.


What You'll Be Doing

  • Assisting the class teacher in delivering a supportive and inclusive learning environment
  • Providing tailored support to students with additional needs
  • Helping to implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and behaviour support strategies
  • Encouraging independence, engagement, and confidence in the classroom
  • Building positive relationships with pupils, staff, and families

✅ What We're Looking For

  • Experience working with children or young people with additional needs (essential)
  • Understanding of conditions such as autism, ADHD, and Prader-Willi Syndrome (desirable)
  • A calm, nurturing approach with excellent communication skills
  • Flexibility, teamwork, and a genuine passion for inclusive education
  • Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or willingness to work towards)

Job requirements:

  • Evidence of right to work in the UK
  • Must possess an Enhanced Child only DBS Certificate
  • Registered with the EWC (Education Workforce Council)
  • At least two professional references covering 24 months

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
