Job Title: EYFS Teaching Assistant

Location: Wakefield, WF2

Salary: 89.38-100 per day

Contract Type: Full-time

Reports to: EYFS Class Teacher / EYFS Lead / Headteacher

Job Purpose:

To support the class teacher and wider EYFS team in delivering a safe, stimulating, and nurturing learning environment in accordance with the Early Years Foundation Stage framework. The EYFS Teaching Assistant will help ensure children develop socially, emotionally, physically, and educationally to their full potential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the delivery of high-quality early years education and care under the direction of the class teacher.

  • Assist in planning and delivering engaging activities in line with EYFS curriculum goals.

  • Help set up and tidy learning environments, ensuring materials and resources are safe and accessible.

  • Provide one-to-one or small group support for children, including those with additional needs.

  • Observe and record children's progress, sharing insights with the teaching team and contributing to assessment records.

  • Promote positive behaviour and support children's emotional wellbeing.

  • Help with personal care tasks where required (e.g., toileting, changing clothes).

  • Ensure safeguarding and child protection procedures are followed at all times.

  • Work collaboratively with staff, parents, and carers to support children's development.

Person Specification:

Essential:

  • Relevant qualification in childcare or education (e.g., CACHE Level 3, NVQ, or equivalent).

  • Experience working with young children in an educational or care setting.

  • Good understanding of the EYFS framework.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Patience, creativity, and a caring nature.

  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Desirable:

  • First Aid qualification.

  • Experience supporting children with SEND.

  • Knowledge of child development and observation/assessment techniques.

Working Hours:

Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm, Term Time Only

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
