Learning Support Officer
Location: Carmarthenshire
Hours: Flexible Working
Salary: £13.75 per hour
About the Role
Are you an enthusiastic, resilient and confident individual looking to support children and young people to achieve their full potential? We work with a number of Secondary Schools and Alternative Provisions across Carmarthenshire that are looking for Teaching Assistants who will contribute to a positive environment and will be easily adaptable to changing behaviour and differing needs of the individual.
Key Responsibilities
As a Learning Support Officer, the successful candidate will need to engage with and support both the teacher and students within the classroom, they may need to contribute to implementing IDP’s (Individual Development Plans) in order for the pupils to grow and improve
- Provide 1:1 and small group mentoring for learners who may have additional learning needs
- Work closely with teaching staff to promote positive behaviour and engagement
- Effectively manage behaviour and changing circumstances to maintain a focused and safe learning environment
- Create a calm, supportive, and nurturing setting for all pupils
- Support pupils to develop confidence, resilience, and essential life skills
What We’re Looking For
A successful candidate will be someone calm, patient and confident in managing behaviour that could be challenging and no two days will be the same.
- Welsh Speaking (desirable)
- Experience supporting children or young people with SEN and challenging behaviours (desirable)
- Resilient, patient, and understanding attitude
- Ability to deliver consistent 1:1 and small group support
- Skills in managing and de-escalating behaviour effectively
- Have transferable skills from previous backgrounds
- Sports or coaching background (desirable)
- Commitment to boosting pupil engagement and emotional development
- Dedication to creating an inclusive learning environment
Requirements
Teaching Personnel can guide you through the process, but you’ll need to be willing to obtain at your own cost or already hold:
- To be 18 or over
- Registration with the Education Workforce Council (EWC)
- An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service
- Level 2 Safeguarding training
- Two professional references covering 24 months employment

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
