Learning Support Assistant required to re-engage young people

This vacancy has now expired.

Job description

I am currently working alongside a specialist alternative provision in Chorley who require Teaching Assistants to support the needs of their students. The school provides support for up to 90 students aged between 8 and 16 and also has a KS2 provision offering nurture and anger-management support to students from local primary schools as part of their alternative provision packages

The majority of students are dual registered (enrolled at more than one school) and attend the school for five days a week. A small proportion attends on a part-time basis for two days a week and spends the rest of the week under the responsibility of their base school. A large proportion of students are disadvantaged and supported by the pupil premium funding. Most students have poor attendance prior to joining the school. The majority of students are White British and a small number speak English as an additional language. On admission to the school the majority of students are below their chronological reading and spelling ages and have low attainment in English and Mathematics. The majority of students have been identified by the referring schools as having additional needs: a small proportion of these students have a statement of special educational needs.

The role will involve supporting pupils with social, emotional and mental health difficulties in order to raise attainment, improve attendance and improve behaviour. You MUST have experience supporting pupils of a challenging nature and be willing to work on a supply basis whilst we seek you a longer term or permanent opportunity.
